On suspending the overnight coverage as part of our
True Pet Hospice, Pet Parent Peace of Mind
Program

a letter from owner & founder, Tammy Wynn

There has probably been no decision harder for me than making the decision to suspend overnight coverage as part of our Pet Parent Peace of Mind Program.

As of April 15, 2022, we have suspended overnight coverage as part of our True Pet Hospice, Pet Parent Peace of Mind Program. Our other compassionate and loving services our clients have loved over 11 years in business will still be available seven days a week during regular business hours of 9am – 7pm, excluding holidays.

I have been very creative over the years in attracting amazing staff, because we deeply care about the people we hire, and we know how much it means to the level of service we provide.  We have offered creative schedules, exceptional compensation, training with leading professionals in the field of animal hospice, company cars and a host of other benefits in order to attract the top talent in Cincinnati, who we refer to as “angels” of Angel’s Paws.

Unfortunately, we at Angel’s Paws have not been immune to the effects of the pandemic. For several years, there has been a registered vet tech (RVT) shortage nationwide.  That shortage has now created an insurmountable challenge to the overnight portion of our service. This is something, from the day I started Angel’s Paws, that I have been keenly attuned to, to make sure that we were able to provide a sustainable service. That is why, as I assess the staffing situation during the pandemic, I have had to come to terms with the fact that staffing is a serious limiting factor.

That said, we are doing this to stay strong as a company and continue to be able to offer every other aspect of service our clients have loved …. amazing palliative care at home with advanced symptom control and pain management, a peaceful home euthanasia, a secure private cremation with a special return of ashes in our chapel, one to one grief counseling and free pet loss support groups. These personal, compassionate services will continue to be provided in an unparalleled way.

By discontinuing our overnight offering, our goal is to be able to attract more registered vet techs in creative schedules that will accommodate their childcare situations that have been severely impacted by the pandemic.

I’m beyond proud of the fact that Angel’s Paws has set the bar high and provided true pet hospice, 24/7, 365 day a year coverage with an interdisciplinary team for these past 11 years …a statistic no other organization in the entire world can rival. It has been our true honor to bring this service into existence in Cincinnati and join thousands of amazing pet parents in their effort to provide the best end of life experience possible for their pet.

In summary, please know that Angel’s Paws is here to continue to help you with your pet as they age… we can assist with creative palliative care options for quality of life. The only service impacted at this time by the staffing issues brought on by the pandemic is the overnight coverage (after regular business hours of 9am – 7pm). Please know that I have tried to navigate many other solutions before coming to this difficult decision.
